A nursing mother simply identified as Blessing Ibuku has been arrested by the Delta State Police Command for allegedly throwing her 10-month-old baby into the Aviara Community river over mockery from her friends.
The suspect was today paraded alongside other criminal elements by the Delta State commissioner of Police, ABANIWONDA S. OLUFEMI at the command headquarters in Asaba.
According to the CP, a case of the missing child, Prevail Jonathan was reported at the station on the 4th of December, 2024.
However, the police received a call that the corpse of a child was found floating at the river and when the deceased baby was brought to the station, it was discovered to be the corpse of the missing child.
The CP disclosed that during investigation, the mother of the child confessed that she threw the child into the river on the 31st of November, 2024 because friends and other girls from the community were mocking her that the child does not have a father.
The suspect is still in police custody as investigations continue.
